Dear All
Survey Action Points
You have seen the results of the survey: The Members have spoken. In response, the Trustees have agreed a concrete action plan to deliver appropriate improvements and change.
Now then, some requirements which involve significant spend will have to wait until we have resolved our long term home. For example, new toilets and improved insulation.
A long term home for Shed
Goal: To provide shed with a long term home fit for its Members.
Outcome: Shed will have sufficient tenure to be able to attract significant external funding for much needed facilities.
The Trustees have identified 6 potential locations for our home (including staying where we are). Inevitably, some options are more realistic than others. Ian L will lead a small group to nail these down but no doubt, this is longer term process and will involve
confidential discussions with third parties. The Trustees will have full oversight of that process but we may not be able to keep all Members appraised during this period I’m afraid.
In the meantime, we can get on with these:
Tidy Workshops

Goal: To provide Members with storge space to put away their project materials at the end of each session.
Outcome: All benches are clear of project materials every day. Member feel that materials and their tools are safe. Much easier to keep Shed clean.
Geoff will lead this task. Please give him all cooperation and support. Without jumping to solutions at this stage, the end result may involve lockable storage boxes, racking to store them and an electric lift (mini forklift type thing) for placing and retrieving
storage boxes. Whilst the need stems from workbench clutter, the scope may include storage for items in PAT testing, spring / Christmas sale products for example. If you have practical suggestions, please let Geoff know.
Donation Handling

Goal: Effectively manage incoming donations
Outcome: Incoming donations are triaged (refuse, recycle, accepted as shed asset, accepted for re-sale. Re-sale process implemented correctly.
Amir will lead this stream. This task is complementary to Geoff’s task. We need dedicated quarantine areas for incoming donations and a number of Members who will have the confidence to ‘effectively manage incoming donations’. In an ideal world, the quarantine
areas will be empty at the end of each day with stuff put away and priced appropriately. Please help Amir to make this happen.
Skills Audit

Goal: To enable Members to know who to contact for advice, training, and whom to bounce ideas against. Similarly, a route for Members to share their skills.
Outcome: A simple database / directory where Members can search for others who have the knowledge to tap.
The Survey very clearly identified that most Members want to learn and share their skills with others. This then is simply a match making process to connect those with questions to those who have the answers. Initially, we will use Member’s application form
data and then ask Members to review and enhance their listings. Please don’t be put off, the collective skills and knowledge that we have is amazing and please don’t underestimate your own knowledge. Ian L / Ian C will lead this.
New Member buddy induction system

Goal: A named Member who will show new Members the ropes and support them through induction and training
Outcome: New Members become integrated into Shed as soon as possible.
The Survey identified that whilst good, our induction system could be improved by using a buddy system. Clive will lead this task and I know that you will give him your full support.
Regards,
Ian L
